Angela Hu

Education Division/ Piano Instructor/ Administrative Director

Angela is a distinguished concert pianist and chamber musician celebrated for her virtuosity, musical depth, and dedication to both performance and education. Having graced prestigious international stages, Angela captivates audiences with her exceptional artistry as both a soloist and a collaborative performer. Her extensive involvement in renowned music festivals and masterclasses has profoundly shaped her musicianship, enabling her to provide students with a uniquely innovative and informed approach to music education.

As a Steinway & Sons Piano Faculty and Educational Partner, Angela is recognized for her commitment to excellence in piano education. Since beginning her teaching career in 2015, she has cultivated a pedagogical philosophy centered on building strong technical foundations, fostering healthy practice habits, and creating an encouraging and accessible learning environment. She meticulously customizes her lessons to align with each student’s unique aspirations, whether they are preparing for competitions, recitals, or personal growth. Angela’s experience encompasses students of all ages and skill levels, earning her a reputation as a supportive and collaborative educator.

Angela values open communication with her students and their families, ensuring that her teaching is tailored to foster confidence, creativity, and individual growth. By seamlessly blending traditional and contemporary methods, she nurtures comprehensive musicianship, inspiring students to delve into the classical repertoire while embracing diverse musical genres. Angela holds both undergraduate and Master’s degrees in Piano Performance from the Longy School of Music of Bard College, where she studied with esteemed pianists. Her academic and artistic achievements have shaped her into a versatile and dedicated educator, fully committed to guiding her students toward excellence in their musical journeys.

Stephen Kim

Violin / Viola Faculty

Violinist Stephen Kim, a native of Queens, New York, embarked on his classical music journey at an early age through the Juilliard Pre-College program, where he also performed with the Juilliard Pre-College Orchestra. He started his lesson with the professor from New England Conservatory under the esteemed guidance of James Buswell, and later subsequently earned an Undergraduate Performance Diploma from the Longy School of Music of Bard College with Paula Majerfeld. Stephen later obtained a Master of Music in Performance from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, studying with Marcus Placci.

As a versatile performer, Stephen has collaborated with several prestigious orchestras, including the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Cape Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Pro Musica Orchestra, New Bedford Philharmonic Orchestra, Longy Symphony Orchestra, and the Boston Conservatory Orchestra. He has also been a member of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra and regularly participates in chamber music performances across New England.

Among numerous accolades, Stephen was awarded first prize in the Concerto Competition at the Longy School of Music of Bard College, performing as a featured soloist with the Longy School Orchestra at Harvard University's Sanders Theatre. Among many more awards, recently he also received an Honors Award for his distinguished performance with the Cambridge Rindge & Latin Orchestra at the New England Holocaust Memorial event.

Stephen is fortunate to be sponsored by Charles G., performing on a 1937 Switzerland violin and a 1920 Markneukirchen German violin, while primarily performing on a George Craske (born 1797, died 1888) violin from England, a treasured instrument that contributes to his unique sound and Craske famously known for his works on the Guarneri del Gesù violin of virtuoso Niccolo Paganini in 1852.

Stephen has received numerous full scholarships to renowned music festivals and institutions, underscoring his commitment to excellence in his craft. His extensive festival experience includes LyricaFest, Citizen Artist Orchestra, Point CounterPoint in Vermont, the New England Music Festival, Tanglewood, and many others, where he has had the privilege of connecting with and learning from some of the finest musicians in the field.

Maddox Realejo

Piano Faculty

Maddox Realejo has been studying and performing piano since the age of nine. Currently a senior at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music under the mentorship of Spencer Myer, he was previously a student of Irina Tchantceva at the Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School.

Maddox's musical journey is marked by early successes. At 16, he won the Rhode Island Philharmonic Concerto Competition, performing Beethoven's Second Piano Concerto with the Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Orchestra under conductor Alexey Shabalin. He also earned the Beethoven Award at the 2018 University of Rhode Island Piano Extravaganza Competition.

In his undergraduate years at the Longy School of Music of Bard College, Maddox focused on studying and performing the complete 24 Chopin Etudes, among other major solo and concerto works. His impressive achievements during this period include winning first prize at the 2022 Rhode Island State Music Teachers National Association Competition.

A versatile musician, Maddox excels in collaborative repertoire, frequently performing chamber music, sonata, and song works. He has also participated in numerous master classes with renowned musicians, including Olga Kern, Stewart Goodyear, and Joyce Yang, further enhancing his interpretative and technical abilities.

Maddox's recent accolades include winning first prize in the 2023 Indianapolis Matinee Musicale Piano Competition and first prize in the Indiana University Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto Competition. This led to a highly successful performance of Rachmaninoff's 2nd Piano Concerto with the IU Philharmonic.

As a pianist, Maddox is distinguished by his technical precision, musicality, and expressive artistry. His continued success in competitions and his expanding international career signal his promising future as a leading figure in the classical music world.

Didi Gu

Composition

Didi Gu is a highly talented and rising composer with great potential, recognized for her artistry and technical proficiency in contemporary music. Currently, she is based in New York and is pursuing a Master of Music in Composition at the Manhattan School of Music. She earned a Bachelor of Music in Composition from the renowned New England Conservatory, where she honed her skills and deepened her understanding of the complexities of musical language. Didi received her high school diploma in composition from the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy, where she laid the foundation for her distinguished career. Throughout her academic journey, Didi has been fortunate to study with a distinguished group of private mentors who have shaped her musical voice. Her teachers include Reiko Fueting, John Mallia, Kati Agocs, Sid Richardson, and Cynthia van Maanen, all of whom are esteemed figures in contemporary composition. Their expert guidance and influence have enabled Didi to develop a unique and sophisticated compositional style, making her one of the brightest emerging talents in contemporary music today. 

Didi’s musical development has been enriched by her participation in some of the world’s most prestigious music festivals, where she has had the opportunity to collaborate with leading musicians and composers from around the globe. She has attended the Valencia International Performing Arts Summer Festival, the Vienna Contemporary Composers Festival, the Atlantic Music Festival, the Beijing Modern Music Festival, and the Curtis Summer Music Festival. At each of these festivals, she has gained invaluable insights into the creative process, further refining her work and expanding her international network. Her works have been performed by some of the most prominent contemporary ensembles in all over the world, including the Mivos Quartet, the Phase ensemble, and more. 

As an educator, Didi has been tutoring music theory both in schools and privately since high school. She is dedicated to making music theory engaging and accessible, ensuring students find it both enjoyable and easy to understand while achieving their goals. In addition to music theory, Didi is also experienced in teaching composition, she has offered private lessons to students and music enthusiasts ranging in age from 7 to 46 years old. Her composition lessons are designed to inspire creativity and help students develop their unique musical voices, whether they are beginners or more experienced musicians. She adapts her teaching approach to suit the needs and goals of each student, fostering a supportive environment where learners can explore and refine their compositional skills.


Josephina Kim

Cello Faculty

Josephina Kim has earned international recognition as an accomplished soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral performer. She has achieved numerous accolades in international competitions, including being a top prize winner of the prestigious Heida Hermann’s International Competition, a platform that launched the careers of renowned cellists Amit Peled and Rajan Krishnaswami. As a recipient of a full scholarship, Ms. Kim attended the esteemed Juilliard Pre-College program, where she won the concerto competition and performed the Korngold Cello Concerto with the Juilliard Orchestra at Lincoln Center.

Ms. Kim completed her undergraduate studies at the Longy School of Music of Bard College under the mentorship of Dr. Terry King. During her time at Longy, she garnered all of the institution’s highest honors, including a concerto performance at Harvard University’s Sanders Theatre under the baton of Leon Botstein, where she performed Elgar’s Cello Concerto with the Longy Orchestra. She subsequently pursued a Master of Music degree at the Yale School of Music, where she had the privilege of participating in a cello orchestra performance in honor of the legendary Aldo Parisot. Following her studies at Yale, Ms. Kim joined the New England Conservatory under the tutelage of Laurence Lesser, further refining her artistry and technical mastery.

Ms. Kim has appeared with prominent ensembles and organizations, including Lyrica, ArtsAhimsa, the Yale Symphony Orchestra, Yale Cellos Chamber, New England Conservatory Orchestra, Cape Symphony Orchestra, New Bedford Philharmonic Orchestra and Juilliard Orchestra. Ms. Kim currently is active member of Boston Philharmonic Orchestra and regularly participates in chamber music performances across New England. Her performance venues span some of the world’s most distinguished halls, including Woolsey Hall, Sprague Hall, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Pickman Hall, Sanders Theatre, and Boston’s Symphony Hall.

Her dynamic career continues to reflect her dedication to musical excellence and her reputation as a versatile and accomplished artist.
